The dances from Colima in Mexico are the "Son" and the "Jarabe". These were originated in spain with a gypsy origin, and were consolidated thru the XIX century in Mexico. The principal characteristic is the use of the "Mariachi" music, in a style which is also shared by the states of Jalisco and Nayarit.
Examples of "Son" would include "El Atole", "La Negra" in which the lyrics describe the singing of a man trying to win the love of woman; "Las Alanzas" which is a dance only for women with no lyrics, and "El Pasacalles" which is also a courtship song, and the most famous kind of music, the "Jarabe", in which we find the mous important song: "El Jarabe Tapatío" which represents the mating dance of the chickens.
