A man who filmed himself sexually abusing boys at his homes in Manchester and Liverpool, has been jailed.

Ian Mitchell, 56, of Mersey Court, Wallasey, admitted 30 offences between 1995 and 2010 against five victims aged between 12 and 15.

The car boot trader was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to eight years in prison and ordered to serve an additional four years on licence.

The court heard he befriended his victims and offer them jobs.

Police said Mitchell, who previously lived at John Robinson Walk, Moston, Manchester, groomed a succession of boys and offered them jobs at car boot sales or on his market stall at Tuebrook, Merseyside.
'Appalling evidence'

He would invite individual boys back to his home and use alcohol and drugs during the abuse, police said.

Officers discovered a metal case of home-made dvds showing images of the boys being abused, when they searched his Wallasey home on 26 January 2010.

The victims were identified and charges were brought, in some cases years after the abuse had taken place.

Speaking after the sentence, Det Con Dec O'Reilly, said: "We recovered appalling evidence of Mitchell carrying out sordid sexual abuse on the victims, who have all suffered terribly as a result of what he has done.

"Mitchell is a predatory sex offender who preyed on young boys, befriended them and gained their trust before subjecting them to unimaginable abuse.

"I hope that this sentence might encourage other victims to come forward and should act as a strong warning to that we will robustly investigate these offences regardless of how long ago they happened."

Mitchell was also made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register.
